Frequently Asked Questions About Yoga Therapy

What is yoga therapy?

Yoga therapy is a professional, evidence-based practice that adapts the tools of yoga—gentle movement, breathwork, somatic awareness, and meditation—to address specific physical, emotional, and health-related challenges. Unlike a general studio class, individualized yoga therapy bridges clinical insight with holistic care to support chronic pain management, nervous system regulation, and overall wellbeing.

What happens in a 1-on-1 session?

Each session begins with a comprehensive assessment of your physical movement, breath patterns, and health history. From there, your certified yoga therapist guides you through personalized, low-impact movements, targeted breathwork, and restorative positioning designed specifically for your body. You will leave every session with clear, actionable practices to support your healing at home.

Is yoga therapy right for beginners or those with mobility limitations?

Yes, absolutely. No prior yoga experience, flexibility, or athletic background is required. Sessions are fully customized to meet you where you are today—whether you are moving in a chair, working on a mat, or adapting movements around injury, chronic fatigue, or joint pain.

What health conditions can yoga therapy help support?

Individualized yoga therapy serves as an evidence-based, integrative approach to managing both physical and nervous system health challenges. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all workout, sessions are specifically tailored to help alleviate symptoms and improve daily function for conditions such as:

  • Chronic Pain & Musculoskeletal Issues: Ongoing lower back pain, neck and shoulder tension, joint stiffness, arthritis, sciatica, fibromyalgia, and postural imbalances.

  • Nervous System & Stress-Related Conditions: Chronic stress, anxiety, burnout, insomnia, autonomic dysregulation, and fatigue.

  • Oncology Support & Recovery: Managing treatment side effects such as chemo-induced neuropathy, joint pain, cancer-related fatigue, and lymphedema risk while restoring emotional resilience.

  • Cardiovascular & Respiratory Health: High blood pressure, asthma, shallow breathing patterns, and stress-induced heart palpitations.

  • Neurological & Autoimmune Challenges: Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease symptoms, long-COVID recovery, and autoimmune flare-ups (supported through gentle, low-impact pacing).

  • Movement & Mobility Recovery: Post-rehabilitation movement, pelvic floor awareness, balance loss, and safe return to movement following surgery or injury.

What makes Amy’s approach unique?

Amy bridges clinical expertise and holistic wellness by pairing over 14+ years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner with advanced training as a certified 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapist. This allows her to seamlessly weave evidence-based medical knowledge with somatic, whole-person practices.

How does Amy's medical background inform her yoga therapy?

Because of her extensive clinical history, Amy understands anatomy, physiology, and complex health conditions from a practitioner's perspective. She customizes yoga therapy protocols—incorporating gentle movement, breathwork, and bodywork—that safely support recovery, pain management, and overall nervous system regulation.

What can clients expect from working with Amy?

You receive an integrative, highly individualized experience. Rather than choosing between conventional healthcare and holistic healing, Amy provides a grounded, compassionate space where modern clinical insights and traditional therapeutic movement work in tandem to support long-term well-being.

How does yoga therapy differ from a regular yoga class?

While a general yoga class guides a group through a predetermined sequence of poses, yoga therapy is a clinical, 1-on-1 therapeutic relationship focused entirely on your individual health goals, medical history, and physical constraints.

Why are sessions by appointment only?

To ensure you receive dedicated time, personal attention, and a quiet, uninterrupted space, all services—including initial consultations, individual yoga therapy sessions, and private appointments—must be scheduled in advance.

Can I stop by to see the space or ask questions in person?

We love connecting with our community, but to honor the privacy and sanctuary-like environment of active client sessions, we are unable to accommodate walk-in visitors. Please reach out via our contact form or phone to schedule a time to chat or tour the studio.

How do I book a session with Amy?

All sessions are scheduled in advance to maintain a tranquil, dedicated space for our clients. We invite you to begin by reserving a complimentary Connection Call online—a brief, thoughtful conversation to explore your goals, answer questions, and ensure our approach aligns with your needs before your first session.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

We reserve your session time specifically for you. If you need to reschedule or cancel, please provide at least 24 hours' notice to avoid a cancellation fee and to allow us to offer that space to someone else on the waiting list.
